Prince Edward Island, home of red-sand beaches, lighthouses and lobsters is embracing the different with a new competitive spectator sport — Lobster Trap Stacking.
Huh?
Competitors carry 15 lobster traps that weigh 41 kilograms (90 pounds) for a distance of nine metres (30 feet) and stack them five tiers high.
All competitors must supply their own gloves and safety boots. The winner is chosen based on speed and the neatness of their stacking. Top prize is $1,000.
Personally, my idea of a summer spectator sport is sitting at an outdoor cafe, sipping a latte and watching all the beautiful people that seem to emerge with the sunshine, but …
If you happen to be in P.E.I. on July 12th this summer, stop by the Summerside Lobster Carnival and cheer on the trappers 🙂
I’m with you about sitting at an outdoor cafe as my favourite summer spectator sport. But Lobster Stacking does get top points for originality…and for including ‘neatness’ in their criteria!

It is original, I wonder what kind of turn out they get 🙂

LOL!
The regular public looked at the size of those traps last year and went, “Yeah, I don’t think so.” This summer, it’s professional lobster men only 🙂

Ok. That’s brilliant!!! First of all, how AMAZING would it have been to be at the meeting where this was dreamed up? And secondly, oddly enough, at my day job (a gift/gallery/antique shop) we sell Canadian Lobster traps! So I know how heavy and kindof awkward they can be. Beautiful though. I am never, ever ever going to look at them the same and now You’ve gifted me a cool story to share as I’m ringing our next, “This is going to make the coolest coffee table!!!” person up. Thank You! And I’m with You on Your idea of a fun summer activity! Well, that….and boogey boarding my brains out! Cheers!!! 🙂

Are the stars aligned or what?
Happy to provide a story you can share 🙂
Boogie boarding sounds like fun. I can’t remember the last I was in the ocean. I mostly hang out in hot tubs these days 🙂

🤣 Right?!! Such a random thing to sell and to blog about! Love it. And I am madly, head-over-heels in love with the ocean but completely understand Your Hot tub romance! Soak on, my friend!!! 🤗 Thanks for gifting the first laugh of the day! Cheers!!! ☀️🐬:)

I love the ocean, but I only get to see it on vacation. Grab some waves for me 🙂

I will! I get my ass kicked a good bit….comedy ensues…but the next good wave I get will be dedicated to You! 🙂 I make it sound like it’s big. Actually, they aren’t that big! And here’s to Your lovely hot tubbing and to Your next vacation! I’m determined to get to Fiji or some such place before I die, so I’m wishing You an ocean like that!!! Cheers! 🙂
