I wonder about that piece of wood in the water: what is it? part of a fancy fence? a gate? And why is it tethered to shore? Perhaps Tom and Huck use it for a raft.
It reminds me of somthing kids might have put together, maybe with a parent’s help. It would make a great diving board in the middle of the lake. I wouldn’t want to take it on rapids!

That’s a weird item for someone to stick in the water. A message in a bottle would probably be easier…
