Trees are like kids or dogs, I like them a lot better at someone else’s house.
Or in the park.
The winding paths of our local park are gorgeous in the autumn, crisp, colourful leaves underfoot. Actually, there isn’t a season when trees don’t look great.
I’m not anti-trees all together, just the ones in my back and front yards. Massive old pine trees that kill the grass beneath them and blanket the yard with pine needles that someone, me, has to rake.

Don’t tell anyone, but I tried to get rid of them.
Nope. The city frowns on tree murder.
I’m stuck with them.
Turns out that might be a good thing. There are a ton of studies claiming that trees are heart friendly. The more trees in your neighbourhood, the less likely you are to have a heart attack. Heart disease, strokes, anxiety, and depression all decrease in areas with trees and green spaces.
Guess I’ll get out the rake 🙂
I suppose raking pine needles is also heart healthy what with the whole exercise thing.

Trees also absorb CO2, so they are about the only things working to stop global warming.

True. No question, the planet could use more trees and fewer people 🙂

When we bought out house, one of the sellng features was the number of beautiful spruce trees that surrounded it. We don’t rake the pine needles. The three inch bed of needles surrounding the trees is a good way of controlling weeds. On one side of the yard, we have an open border with our neighbors . When they started raking the needles, a dense undergrowth of weeds and shrubs took over. Ever since, I’ve been wanting to build a fence … but that’s another story.

Thanks, Sandy. Now, I’m not being lazy when I put my rake away, I’m helping the weed situation 🙂

Trees are great in the right place. Pine needles are a nightmare in home gutters… oops, looks like I just gave you another yard task???

LOL! I’m 4’10” (147cm), I’d need a crane to get to the gutters 🙂

Thanks 🙂
Aside from the exercise benefit, they do look amazing in winter, green branches decorated in snow 🙂
